The event is very well-organized from start to finish. The staff is very helpful. I liked the instructions provided beforehand. I was a little worried about whether participants would know the rules; it seems that people came prepared.
It is a great pleasure to play Mahjong with strangers. I hope TVB USA can run the same event next year!
I really enjoyed how organized the event was. I was worried about the competition dates, but the team was very helpful and communicative about date change requests. The 1-fan minimum made things interesting, since I typically play 3-fan minimum.
I loved being able to compete as a team. It was fun practicing for weeks prior to our qualifying round. It was core memory building for sure.

I enjoyed the mix of strategy, memory, and friendly competition. It was fun to stay mentally engaged while sharing the excitement of mahjong with others.
My favorite part was challenging myself and seeing how much I could improve as I played. My another favorite part was the friendly competition and the chance to challenge my memory and strategy while enjoying mahjong with everyone.
Meeting new people and live standings/stats. The scoring format being 1 fan needs to be drastically overhauled. The disparity/imbalance in hand speeds causes a lot of chaos to happen that is not predicated in skill.

I flew from the State of Arizona to participate this contest, really enjoy it. I’m just excited to play Cantonese MJ, cause most people in US play American MJ which is very different and boring. Cantonese MJ is so excited, feels like home and able to speak Cantonese with others! It’s just awesome.
It’s all good, I can wait to play in the next round with other contestants. One thing I do wanted to point out is: the mahjong table surface is very very slippery, and the table is slightly slanted perhaps the floor isn’t flat enough. I almost exposed my hand a few times cause the tiles can’t stay due to the slippery surface, maybe a ruler could help or a felt material surface instead of a plastic surface.

Making it to past the qualifying rounds and into the pre-lims. Also, I enjoyed all the hours of preparation and practice sessions my team put in to participating in the TVB Mahjong Brain Fitness Championship.
My favorite part was during tournament play and experiencing the luck on the 15th hand of the 16 hands while I was almost down and out (in negative points standing). I decided to go for a full-flush hand (go big or go home!) and luckily I self-drew the winning tile to push me on top for my table. So the 8 fan self-draw hand helped place me in the top 96 and let me advance to the pre-lims on Oct 24.

Seeing so many people playing together like a carnival….
Meeting and competing with new people, and sharing stories afterwards with friends who also competed.
I loved how much of an event it was. Me and my friends practiced 1 faan minimum mahjong for weeks before the event, and it invigorated us and got us extra excited about playing, both in the tournament and in our regular games. I hope there is another tournament next year. It really brought some excitement to the scene.

The event was very organized and the staff did a great job setting up the venue. 1 – I was unclear what to expect leading up to the tournament. The communication and rules could have been structured/formatted in a more engaging manner. The points system was so buried in the rules, that I was unclear going into the tournament. 2 – The experience felt anticlimatic. There was no clarity on tournament timeline (actual dates), and I was not aware that the top 96 players would advance to a second round on 10/25, with finals and a carnival on 10/26. These are information that should have been laid out at the time of sign up. 3 – It would have been nice to receive so sort of recognition for participation, even a sticker or a swag that we can take away. Or better yet, sell t-shirts, etc. that participants can can take as a souvenir. 4 – When signing up, I checked both English and Cantonese capabilities, but I didn’t realize that was how you placed my participation. While the staff was amazing at ensuring inclusivity, there was some language barriers that meant everyone’s experience wasn’t the same. 5 – There was NO entertainment. Organizers should have provided more information on what to expect upon arrival. It would have been nice to have provided some hot tea or coffee, especially when asking participants to show up by 9:30 AM for check in. Luckily I brought my own water, otherwise, it was 3 hours without access to anything. Overall, it was a great first attempt and I look forward to future opportunities to participate and hope there will be improvements on the experience.

Good Experience to meet new people and able to play MahJong.
The staff are friendly and helpful and the overall tournament was actually much friendly than strict rules. The actual rules during the tournament were much friendly than the rules on paper.

The organizing team did a great job creating a fun and well-organized tournament that brought the community together. Thank you for the opportunity to play!
This tournament gave my family a fun reason to play and practice mahjong together over the weekends.
The organization, everything was very clear and I lucked out in being seated at a table with a friend and people who were super relaxed and friendly about competing.
It was a great experience overall and would love to do it again!
